To think that for a second I believed the owl might have been important. Arranged marriage. Feh. What are they playing at? I wish they’d call it what it is: selective breeding. Why sugarcoat it? There’s a bloody clause in the contract that specifies children!
Now, breeding I can get behind. There should be a purification of wizarding lines. Too many family bloodlines are being watered down by the influx of mudbloods. If the Ministry wants pure, wizarding babies, all they need do is ask. It doesn’t have to be couched in legitimacy. I see no real reason to even limit my genes to one lineage.
In truth, I’m curious as to how they drew lots. Like should have been put with like. Not that there are any Slytherin girls I had my eye on… In fact, I always assumed that I would marry younger than myself. Several years after school, not during. Perhaps that’s why they did it… to avoid pairing us off with the same people we’ve essentially been living with the last six years, and would be living with for the year to come. Truth be told, at this point marrying a Slytherin girl in my own year would feel a little incestuous.
It is interesting that it's created so much distress. Nobody is going to actually be married until after our final exams, and by then the Ministry may well have changed its mind. Merlin knows that official decrees these days seem to be fleeting, and largely ineffective. I wouldn't lose sleep over anything, yet.
